Flying Tigers and BuffaloesThis painting by aviation artist Stan Stokes is "the first print in a series to honor the AVG Flying Tigers," and is shown here by permission of the company that sells these popular, limited-edition prints. In this case, Stokes shows an AVG 1st Squadron Tomahawk IIB taking off in the company of an RAF 67 Squadron Brewster Buffalo. The field is presumably Mingaladon Airport just outside of Rangoon. According to the website: "This L/E print is an edition of only 500. It is cosigned by four of the pilots of the 1st Pursuit squadron of the AVG. This is a true collectors item that will make any AVG enthusiast happy." Eighteen by twenty-two inches in size, it sells for $175. For more information, click here. If that's too pricey, here are other paintings along the same line: Buffalo Ace (Stan Stokes) Finnish ace Eino Juutilainen, who attained 33 of his incredible 94 victory credits in a Buffalo. 16"x11+" signed and numbered limited edition print. $39.95 Tiger!
