A Pictorial History of the Flying Tigers

Let the author explain: "My name is Larry M. Pistole, author of The Pictorial History of the Flying Tigers. This is a detailed study of the American Volunteer Group, its members, airplanes and memorabilia. There are 16 pages of color photography and 261 pages of text and photographs. This book is in its fourth printing and has sold for the same price since it was first published in 1981. It is done on the best quality paper, hardbound with color dust jacket. There are numerous first hand accounts of aerial combat by many of America's first Aces of the Second World War. Foreword by Captain Charley Davis Mott, U.S. Navy (Retired), and former Flight Leader of the Second Pursuit Squadron, A.V.G."

I reviewed the book when I wrote Flying Tigers: Claire Chennault and the American Volunteer Group but didn't put it in the bibliography because I wasn't then interested in photographs as such, and there really isn't much that's new in the text, consisting as it does mostly of quotes from published sources that I'd already exploited. But now I own a copy, and I recommend it for every serious student of the AVG Flying Tigers.

Amazon no longer sells the book, though often there are used copies for sale through its "Marketplace" listings. I recommend that you try first through ABE books:
